Sketching from Research

Using the photos I took and images from the book I bought on Durham Cathedral I picked a few patterns to sketch. I was amazed at the sheer volume of patterns I found everywhere in the cathedral. I really like the pattern of the arches, when there is a lot of them all different sizes that create a layered pattern. I think I would like to develop that idea further and create my own pattern.

Local Inspiration - Durham Cathedral

Following the brief I brainstormed ideas I could draw inspiration from using things locally.

I decided to go with Durham Cathedral as it is a very strong part of local heritage, it is easy for me to return to, and I was very enthusiastic about finding patterns inside the building.

Unfortunately I was not permitted to take photographs inside so I did not take as many as I had hoped but I managed to take some in quiet areas. I also purchased a book and some postcards I am planning on doing some drawings from.
